YKK Series High-Voltage Induction Motor

The Shangli YKK series is an enclosed high-voltage three-phase induction motor with IC611 air-to-air cooling. It features IP44 or IP54 protection, horizontal IM B3 mounting, Class F insulation and Class B temperature-rise limits. Designed for industrial fans, pumps, compressors and other machinery, its main cooling circuit uses ambient air rather than an external cooling-water supply.

Product Overview

The Shangli YKK series is an enclosed high-voltage three-phase induction motor range with IC611 air-to-air cooling. It is designed to drive industrial equipment such as fans, compressors, water pumps, cutting machinery and material-handling systems.

The cooling arrangement transfers heat from the motor's circulating internal air to ambient air through a heat exchanger. Unlike the air-to-water-cooled YKS series, the YKK motor's main cooling circuit does not require an external cooling-water supply.

The catalog specifies IP44 or IP54 enclosure protection, horizontal IM B3 mounting, Class F insulation and temperature rise assessed against Class B limits. The final configuration is selected according to the electrical supply, driven load and site conditions.

Key Features

  • IC611 air-to-air cooling: an enclosed motor cooling arrangement that transfers heat to the surrounding air through a heat exchanger.
  • No cooling water for the main motor cooling circuit: an option for installations where a dedicated cooling-water supply is unavailable or undesirable.
  • Enclosed construction: internal motor air recirculates separately from the external cooling-air stream.
  • IP44 or IP54 protection: enclosure protection is confirmed for the selected motor configuration.
  • Class F insulation: with temperature rise assessed against Class B limits.
  • Horizontal foot mounting: IM B3 construction for integration with industrial machinery.
  • Application-specific bearing selection: rolling-element or sleeve bearings according to the selected design and load requirements.

How IC611 Air-to-Air Cooling Works

Air circulating inside the motor carries heat from the active components to the heat exchanger. A separate external air stream removes this heat and releases it to the surroundings.

The internal and external air streams remain separate during normal operation. This differs from an open-ventilated motor, where cooling air passes directly through the motor interior.

The air-to-air heat exchanger eliminates the need for a water connection to the main motor cooling circuit. Any separate bearing-lubrication or auxiliary cooling requirements must still be checked for the selected configuration.

Cooling-Air and Site Requirements

Effective air-to-air cooling depends on the ambient conditions and the installation layout. Provide the site temperature, altitude and available ventilation space during selection.

  • Allow adequate clearance at cooling-air inlets and outlets.
  • Avoid layouts that allow heated discharge air to return directly to the cooling-air inlet.
  • Provide access for inspection and cleaning of the heat exchanger.
  • Report dust, fibres, oil mist or corrosive contaminants that may affect cooling performance.
  • Assess room ventilation where the motor releases heat into an enclosed installation area.

IP44 or IP54 protection does not remove the need to assess contamination, corrosion and outdoor exposure. Confirm any special environmental requirements in the technical specification.

Typical Applications

YKK motors can be considered for industrial drives requiring an enclosed motor and an air-based cooling arrangement, provided the available airflow and ambient conditions suit the selected design.

  • Industrial fans: ventilation and process-air equipment.
  • Compressors: drives matched to the required starting torque, load inertia and operating cycle.
  • Water pumps: industrial water-transfer and circulation systems.
  • Processing and cutting machinery: equipment requiring high-voltage three-phase drives.
  • Material-handling equipment: machinery selected against the motor's torque and speed characteristics.

Relevant sectors include power generation, steelmaking, machinery manufacturing, mineral processing and petrochemical facilities. The standard YKK series is not an explosion-protected motor. Hazardous locations require a separately selected and appropriately approved motor.

Insulation and Bearing Configuration

Class F insulation and Class B temperature-rise limits are specified in the catalog. Final thermal performance depends on the agreed load, ambient conditions and cooling arrangement.

Rolling-element or sleeve bearings are used according to the selected motor design. Confirm the bearing arrangement, lubrication requirements, coupling details and allowable shaft loading before ordering.

Installation and Replacement Checks

The catalog describes horizontal IM B3 foot mounting. Request the exact dimensional drawing before finalizing the foundation, coupling and equipment layout.

  • Check shaft centre height and foundation bolt positions.
  • Confirm shaft extension, key dimensions and coupling interface.
  • Check terminal box location and high-voltage cable clearance.
  • Allow space for cooling airflow and heat-exchanger maintenance.
  • Confirm overall dimensions, motor mass and handling requirements.

For replacement projects, matching power and voltage alone is not sufficient. Rated speed, starting performance, cooling arrangement and mechanical interfaces must also be reviewed.

Starting and Drive-System Considerations

Selection should consider the driven load's torque-speed curve, inertia, starting method, available supply capacity and permissible voltage drop. Include the required starting frequency and acceleration time in the technical enquiry.

If variable-frequency operation is required, request a separately confirmed motor-drive specification. The standard 50 Hz catalog description does not establish suitability across an unrestricted speed range, particularly where cooling performance changes with motor speed.
