Product Overview
The Shangli YKS series is an enclosed high-voltage three-phase induction motor range with IC81W air-to-water cooling. It is designed to drive industrial equipment such as fans, compressors, pumps and material-handling machinery.
The cooling system transfers heat from the motor's circulating internal air to an external cooling-water circuit through a heat exchanger. This distinguishes the YKS series from open-ventilated Y motors and air-to-air-cooled YKK motors.
The catalog specifies IP44 or IP54 enclosure protection, horizontal IM B3 mounting, Class F insulation and temperature rise assessed against Class B limits. The final motor configuration is selected according to the driven load, electrical supply and site cooling-water conditions.
Key Features
- IC81W air-to-water cooling: an enclosed cooling arrangement with a shaft-mounted fan circulating internal air through an air-to-water heat exchanger.

How IC81W Air-to-Water Cooling Works
A shaft-mounted fan circulates air inside the motor. The internal air carries heat to the heat exchanger, where it is transferred to the cooling water. The cooled air then returns through the motor.
Cooling water flows through a separate heat-exchanger circuit; it is not intended to contact the windings. The motor therefore requires a suitable external cooling-water supply during operation.
Motor cooling performance depends on the agreed water conditions and the condition of the heat exchanger. The cooling system must be matched to the motor's heat load and the site's available utilities.
Cooling-Water Information Required for Selection
Please provide the following information when requesting a YKS motor:
- Maximum cooling-water inlet temperature.
- Available water flow and supply pressure.
- Permissible pressure drop across the heat exchanger.
- Water source, treatment method and relevant water-quality data.
- Water connection size, location and piping restrictions.
- Any corrosion, fouling, freezing or seasonal temperature concerns.
Heat-exchanger material, water-side limits and any required monitoring or protective devices must be agreed for the application. Do not assume that the standard configuration is suitable for seawater, untreated process water or other corrosive media.
Typical Applications
YKS motors can be considered for industrial drives where an enclosed air-to-water cooling arrangement suits the installation and a suitable cooling-water supply is available.
- Industrial fans: ventilation and process-air equipment.
- Compressors: drives selected against starting torque, load inertia and operating requirements.
- Water pumps: industrial water-transfer and circulation systems.
- Processing and cutting machinery: equipment requiring high-voltage three-phase drives.
- Material-handling systems: machinery matched to the motor's torque and speed.
Relevant sectors include power generation, steelmaking, machinery manufacturing, mineral processing and petrochemical facilities. The standard YKS series is not an explosion-protected motor; use in a particular industry does not establish suitability for a hazardous area.
Insulation and Bearing Configuration
The catalog specifies Class F insulation with Class B temperature-rise limits. Final thermal performance must be assessed against the agreed electrical load, ambient conditions and cooling-water conditions.
Rolling-element or sleeve bearings are used according to the selected design. Confirm the bearing arrangement, lubrication requirements and allowable shaft loading when reviewing the driven equipment and coupling.
Installation and Maintenance Access
The catalog describes horizontal IM B3 foot mounting. Request the exact dimensional drawing before finalizing the foundation, coupling and cooling-water pipework.
- Check shaft height, shaft extension and foundation bolt positions.
- Confirm terminal box location and cable-entry clearances.
- Coordinate cooling-water inlet and outlet connections.
- Allow access for heat-exchanger inspection and cleaning.
- Provide access for bearing maintenance and lubrication equipment.
Water-side inspection and cleaning requirements depend on the heat-exchanger design and water quality. Follow the supplied operating and maintenance instructions.
Starting and Drive-System Considerations
Selection should account for the load torque-speed curve, driven-equipment inertia, starting method, available supply capacity and permissible voltage drop. Include starting frequency and acceleration requirements in the technical enquiry.
If variable-frequency operation is required, request a separately confirmed motor-drive specification. The standard 50 Hz description does not establish suitability across an unrestricted speed range.
Information Required for a Quotation
Send the following details to our Huzhou team for YKS selection and quotation:
- Required rated output in kW.
- Supply voltage, frequency and required speed or pole count.
- Driven equipment, load characteristics and starting requirements.
