Product Overview
The Shangli YBX3 IIC series is a high-efficiency three-phase induction motor developed for industrial equipment operating in explosive-gas environments. Derived from the YB3 motor platform, this version is specified with the protection marking Ex db IIC T4 Gb.
The series is intended for applications involving Group IIC gases, including hydrogen or acetylene, where the selected motor's certification and operating conditions match the installation requirements. It combines flameproof construction with IP55 enclosure protection and IC411 self-fan cooling.
The stated energy-efficiency requirement is Grade 3 under GB 18613-2020. Electrical ratings, mounting dimensions and certification coverage should be confirmed for the specific motor selected.
Key Features
- IIC gas-group configuration: Intended for demanding industrial gas atmospheres, including hydrogen and acetylene applications, subject to the exact certificate and site requirements.
- Flameproof enclosure protection: The specified Ex db protection concept addresses ignition risks through the motor's flameproof enclosure design.
- T4 temperature classification: A maximum surface temperature classification of 135°C under the specified operating conditions.
- IP55 enclosure rating: The IIC product section specifies IP55 protection for the motor enclosure.
- IC411 cooling: Self-fan cooling uses a shaft-driven external fan to remove heat from the motor enclosure.
- YB3-based mechanical interface: The catalog describes corresponding power ratings, mounting arrangements and mounting dimensions with the YB3 series, while noting differences in the terminal-box arrangement.

Understanding Ex db IIC T4 Gb
| Marking | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Ex | Explosion-protection marking |
| db | Flameproof enclosure protection, level “db” |
| IIC | Gas subgroup associated with gases such as hydrogen and acetylene |
| T4 | Maximum surface temperature classification of 135°C |
| Gb | Equipment protection level for explosive-gas atmospheres |
T4 is a surface-temperature classification, not an allowable ambient temperature or a winding-insulation class. The permitted ambient temperature and other operating limits must be checked in the motor documentation.
The marking does not by itself establish ATEX or IECEx certification. If either approval is required, specify it when requesting a quotation so that the applicable documentation can be reviewed.
Application Considerations
The YBX3 IIC version is intended for industrial drive applications in locations where explosive gas mixtures may be present, including hydrogen or acetylene environments. Selection must account for the site's gas group, temperature-class requirement and hazardous-area classification.
Provide the driven equipment's power, speed, starting torque and duty requirements together with the hazardous-area information. This allows the electrical and mechanical selection to be checked alongside the protection requirements.
IIC gas protection should not be interpreted as combustible-dust approval. Where both gas and dust hazards are present, the motor must have the appropriate documented protection for both hazards.
Cooling and Installation
IC411 cooling uses a fan driven by the motor shaft. Keep the cooling-air path and external surfaces clear in accordance with the motor's installation and maintenance instructions.
If the application requires a variable frequency drive, low-speed operation or frequent starts, request a specific technical assessment. Do not assume inverter-duty capability solely from the YBX3 IIC designation.
For replacement projects, compare shaft dimensions, foot or flange mounting, terminal-box position, cable entry and overall clearances against the approved installation drawing. Similar mounting dimensions do not establish equivalent hazardous-area approval.
Energy Efficiency
The specified efficiency requirement is Grade 3 under GB 18613-2020. Request the efficiency value and supporting documentation for the exact output, pole configuration and supply conditions being quoted.
Where a project specifies an IEC efficiency class or destination-market efficiency requirement, include that requirement in the enquiry. The applicable classification should be confirmed from the selected motor's documentation, rather than inferred from the series name.
